Check my weekly updates, and also the summary at the end! ## Weekly ### Week 1 **Cinderella (1977) (6/10)**^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/62752-cinderella]: a 18+ musical comedy version of Cinderella. Of course there are lot of nudity, but there's a fair bit of humour, and the music is actually good! In fact, I was quite surprised by it. At the end, it mentions a part II coming, but I think it ended up never being made. There's also a musical from 1978 called Fairy Tales^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/29817-fairy-tales], also featuring Sy Richardson, which I'm interested in. **The Breakfast Club (1985) (3/10)**^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/2108-the-breakfast-club]: didn’t like it at all, easily the worst movie of the year so far for me. A couple hours later, the sour taste dissipated and I’m not regretting watching it anymore, but still… it was not funny, it wasn't anything deep, it wasn't heartwarming, it basically amounted to: - the only character that did what she wanted was the one to change and ended up with the jock. - on Monday (or Wednesday at max) they would all end up back to their usual selves, and except for Brian and Allison, they all going to just ignore each other - So the movie serves no purpose for character growth, and no purpose for a good life lesson (see point 1) I guess not being raised in a US school I couldn't connect much, but even if that wasn't the case, it's just a boring movie with a bad message. It did have a few fun moments, but that's it :/ Ally Sheedy looked nice in the movie at least ![](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/breakfastclub/images/f/fd/2d8c06be919d233f790c83d55f32bcef.gif/revision/latest?cb=20170326003328) For the first time, I got some blu-rays at the library, putting the old PS4 to use :) ![[Movie Journal 2024-04 - April-20240405200837101.jpg]] ## Week 2 Nice week with all movies as blurays rented from the Vancouver Public Library! I actually got more after going there to return the ones I got the previous week. ![[Movie Journal 2024-04 - April-20240421212521721.jpg]] Unfortunately, it was a week I was gradually feeling worse, and from Friday onwards I had to take time off-screen due to some issues. **Pompo The Cinephile (2021) (8/10)**^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/678458]: love it!! I never heard about it before but that was a wonderful surprise! An anime movie about making a movie. Love how they showed how 90 minute long movies are great - so much better to find some time to watch, and usually way less padding! **Murder He Says (1945) (6/10)**^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/110790-murder-he-says]: Interesting comedy. Nothing too special about it I think, but I'm glad I watched it and would recommend to people wanting to branch out to older movies. ![[Movie Journal 2024-04 - April-20240430142347008.jpg]] **Rope (1948) (8/10)**^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/1580-rope]: A great Hitchcock movie. Only takes place inside an apartment and doesn't have a lot of characters, but it's fun to watch, and also short - which I love. **The Bad Guys (8/10)**^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/629542-the-bad-guys]: That's a really fun animation! I usually like animations with anthropomorphic characters. The only weird thing is that only main characters seemed to be animals? Like, all the rest was humans. And we did buy our first BluRay: The Nightmare Before Christmas ![[Movie Journal 2024-04 - April-20240421213552397.jpg]] And of course, buying one, you star wanting more. I have a short list of titles I want to get at this other note: [[Movies#Physical Collection]]. ## Week 3 Didn't watch any movies. Watched a bit of Youtube (a bunch of videos from The Book Leo's channel), and a bit of tv shows and anime. ## Week 4 **The Haunted Palace (1963) (7/10)**^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/30137-the-haunted-palace]: I love those Vincent Price horror comedies! This is an interesting movie, and Debra Paget looks amazing in it ![[Movie Journal 2024-04 - April-20240430140502728.jpg]] **The Little Hours (2017) (6/10)**^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/411873-the-little-hours]: One of the many Decameron adaptations. Nothing too much special, comedy was ok, but for an adult comedy of this type, I do think it was too tame. The Nightmare Before Christmas (2007) (7/10)^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/9479-the-nightmare-before-christmas]: I can't believe I haven't watched this one until now. My wife loves it and we ended up buying a 4k bluray on sale. So we watched it on the day we bought our bluray player (A Panasonic DP420). Fun movie, and considering I like Halloween, musicals, and stop-motion it would have been hard to miss. Black Narcissus (1947) (7/10)^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/16391-black-narcissus]: Gorgeous images here! I never heard about this movie, but when I saw that recommended on my Chromecast recs (it's on Tubi), I ended up trying it, and I'm glad I did. An American Werewolf in London (1981) (4/10)^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/814-an-american-werewolf-in-london]: it was ok, but that's it. I think for an horror comedy it was not funny. I was hoping the ending won't be the predictably bad one, but it was, and then it ended kinda abruptly. IDK, not for me. Private Lessons (1981) (6/10)^[https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/41280-private-lessons]: soundtrack is cool. ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7HQnwnUl1I) ## Week 5 (Mon/Tue) Haven't watched movies, but received a bunch of BluRays from Amazon and cinema1.ca. From cinema1.ca: - Coco - Zootopia - Edwards Scissorhands - Over The Garden Wall (DVD) ![[Movie Journal 2024-04 - April-20240430124909649.jpg]] From Amazon: - Clue - Columbia Classics vol 3 - It Happened One Night - From Here To Eternity - To Sir, With Love - The Last Picture Show - Annie - As Good As It Gets I basically got the boxset for It Happened One Night (the box was on sale for CAD$79), but it is a nice selection of movies, and the box looks great. Let's see if Vol 2 or 4 goes on sale at some point (I think Vol 1 is out of print already). ![[Movie Journal 2024-04 - April-20240430124850307.jpg]] I also ended up preordering Tinto Brass: Maestro of Erotica Cinema 2^[https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Tinto-Brass-Maestro-of-Erotica-Cinema-2-Blu-ray/357232/] because it has All Ladies Do It and the other movies also seems great. Didn't need the 4k version of the movie, and the pack with 4 blurays was just a bit more expensive. So it was a nice deal in the end. It'll be released May 21st. ## Summary Now, for the fun data! Average Rating: 6.33 Average TMDB Rating: 6.93 Kinda surprised my average rating is lower than TMDB, but maybe it's no such surprise since my low ratings for Breakfast Club and American Werewolf in London.
